The Japanese Health Ministry announced on Monday that it has temporarily stopped using vaccines produced by Pfizer and Sanofi-Aventis SA. According to the announcement, it is currently investigating the death of four children who had received the jabs.

The vaccines were used to protect children from developing conditions like pneumonia and some variant of meningitis. The government is currently in discussion with health experts to ascertain the reason behind the deaths.
All the four children were aged six months and two years had passed away between March 2 and March 4. The deceased had died the same day or within a matter of three days after receiving the injections.
Vaccination against pneumonia and meningitis had begun about a year or two years ago in Japan. According to the Health Ministry, till date a million to 1.5 million children have received thevaccines.


The Japanese arm of Pfizer has informed that it was co-operating with the investigations of the vaccine that has been identified as Prevenar. It needs to be kept in mind that the injection is being used in America since the past on decade.
