Dear President Nkurunziza, I did not like your visit to Rwanda!

President Pierre Nkurunziza, I saw you on TV that you came to Rwanda only to talk to your counterpart Paul Kagame on April 13, 2015. I was happy by the timing you visited. But I was disappointed on the side of how you left.

Here in Rwanda we were commemorating Genocide against Tutsi, we were also receiving hundreds of Burundians freeing your country to Rwanda. In other words, it was the right time for you to be in Rwanda. It was also the right moment to hear a word of comfort from you as a man of God.

However, Mr. President, the way you behaved was not good at all.

See; you came, you had a talk with President Paul Kagame, I even saw your pictures whatever you were asking advice for, or plotting both for you to stay in power that was none of my business. By the way, the pictures you took with Kagame seated side by side that was not good for you. I will tell you why. So let me go to the main concerns;

Mr. President, I know you are a footballer, there is what we call in soccer “fair play”. You are also a pastor right? The Bible says in Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” Pastor Peter, you didn’t mourn with us.

Let the truth be told.
Whatever, the reason was you could have, at least you could have said “On behalf of Burundian people and on my own behalf, we are with you in this commemoration when you remember the loved souls who perished in the Genocide against Tutsi…Genocide should never happen again anywhere in the world.” That would be a comforting word that your government and people of Burundi are with us as we commemorate. That would also be good diplomacy.

But since you did not say that; that’s okay, we can always take care of ourselves. However, that’s bad manners, my brother in Christ. Brother, Peter, the scriptures says that—If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well-James 2:8

Did Brother Paul Kagame refuse you to speak in public? If yes, why wouldn’t you write a statement after getting back to Bujumbura? Let’s forget the commemoration and Rwandans; after all we shall be okay anyway.

Lets talk about Burundians,

President Pierre Nkurunziza, the day you came; on April 13, 2015 in Rwanda, we were already hosting almost 4,000 Burundians fleeing your country. On that day, we received 1,300 more refugees. Listen, am not blaming you for the refugees, because sometimes politics goes wrong and situations happen. But why didn’t you tell them anything? I mean anything like a word of comfort, hope etc.

That was an opportune time to come up with some of political rhetoric statements like “I would like to assure a very Burundian that there’s no reason for fear. The situation is under control…Burundi will be okay, no reason to panic.” If you had done exactly that, you would have killed two birds with a single stone i.e. one, meeting Kagame and secondly, comforting the people.

...About your socks

Lets again Mr. President, I am a journalist not a fashion police but this picture you took with Kagame seated side by side exposed your wardrobe malfunction. I am not that good is style but here are some issues in heard people talking about.

If you happen to wear a suit as you did Sir and you happen to sit down on a chair, just relax your jacket by opening buttons, but for you, Mr. President, you went on tight mood though you could see Kagame relaxed to show you that the place is safe to relax.

I heard many people complain about your socks. Your suite was great, neck tie great and the shirt was matching but was those socks or stockings? Really? With all those colours! I don’t think that was a good choice.
