BAN ... Alex Ferguson
BAN ... Alex Ferguson

ALEX FERGUSON has been hit with a five-match touchline ban for his rant about referee Martin Atkinson.

The Manchester United boss was also fined £30,000 by the FA after his comments about Atkinson's performance in the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea.
At the time, Ferguson said: "When I saw who the referee was I did fear it. I feared the worst."
He went on to complain about a number of decisions including David Luiz's late tackle on Wayne Rooney which went unpunished.
An FA statement said: "At an independent regulatory commission Alex Ferguson was handed a touchline suspension for three matches and fined a total of £30,000.
"Furthermore the commission invoked a two-match suspended touchline ban, relating to a previous charge of improper conduct in relation to media comments made in October 2009."
Ferguson's ban starts next Tuesday and means he will spend the entire month of April on the sidelines.
He will be in the stands for United's FA Cup semi-final clash against rivals Manchester City.
And he is also banned for the potential title showdown with Arsenal on May 1, when his absence from the dugout comes to an end.
